Comparing Hotel Room Rates

Hotel Rates No Comments »

There can be many reasons that bring you to look for discounted hotel rates.  Perhaps you’re planning a family vacation, you have a business trip coming up or there’s been an emergency and you need to go out of town.  No matter what the reason is, the fact is you need to look into comparing hotel room rates in order to get the best price possible.

Most people take for granted that when they call a hotel the price they are given is the best rate possible.  Perhaps this is because they’re going directly through the hotel.  Just because you call the hotel directly doesn’t mean you’re getting the best price possible.  There are ways that you can compare hotel room rates without having to call each hotel individually together going rate.

One of the best ways to compare prices is by the online search engines that are offered on the Internet.  There are many different sites that will do the searching for you; all you have to do is enter in your information.  These sites are very simple to work with and they are very user friendly. Their forms are just: fill in the blanks and click on choices.  Fast, easy and efficient.  You can do a search in a matter of minutes and save yourself a ton of money.

You’ll need to fill in a short form that contains your travel information such as your name, travel dates, amount of people you will be traveling with and any particular hotel accommodations that you’re looking for.  After you get all of this information entered in, you will then click the button to do the search.  Generally these sites will allow you to compare the prices of several different hotels in any area on one page.

You will be able to see the name of the hotel, ratings of the hotel, price of the hotel and in some cases the amenities and that they offer.  Usually you will have the option to click which hotels you would like to compare more closely and then look at the list you have compiled.  This would give you a more detailed breakdown of what each hotel offers and what discounts are available to you.

These online websites are not the only way to compare hotel rates.  Local travel agencies are also there to take care of the details for you when it comes to comparing hotels.  Local travel agencies will do the best that they can to find hotel accommodations that are in the price range you’re looking for.  Because they work directly with the hotels, they can offer different rates than what you would get from an online website.

It is important to keep in mind that in order to get some of these discounts you either find online or with a travel agency, you’ll need to book your hotel stay directly with the party that offered you a discount.  Hotels will not accept a verbal agreement from a travel agent based on your say so.  A reservation helps to retain the hotel room specifically for you upon your arrival.  This way you will not run into any issues upon check in and you will get the rate you paid for.

The type of accommodations you want will depend on how much time you will be spending in your hotel room.  This can either add greatly to the amount you pay for the hotel or take away from the total price. But keep in mind that just because you want a room with all the extras, you don’t have to pay top dollar.  This is why it is good to compare hotel rates before making your choice.  Do not go with the first rate that you get as most often there will be a better one out there.  Learn to look for discounts.  There are little things you can learn to watch for such as weekly specials, off peak season discounts and buy one night, get one night deals.

You can also try to use the cheapest quotes to your advantage as many hotels will offer a guarantee that they will give you the lowest rate possible.  It is just important to remember that you need to get the quotes in writing so that you can take the quote to another hotel and see if they will meet or beat the rate.

No matter what type of traveling you’re doing, whether it is for business or pleasure, there are ways to save on your hotel accommodations.  You can get the cheapest rate by simply comparing hotels and the rates that they offer.

Locating the Best Hotel Rates

No matter whether you’re traveling for pleasure or you’re planning a business trip, it can be challenging when locating the best hotel rates.  You do not want to make your trip all about the hotel you will be sleeping at so it only makes sense to try and save money with discount hotel rates.  Many people think that it would be difficult to find the best hotel rates so they end up going with the first rate that they come across.

One of the worst things that we all do is take advantage of all of the conveniences that are around us.  If we don’t feel like cooking we hit a fast food restaurant and if we don’t want to read the book, we buy the CD where someone reads the book to us.  We tend to forget that some of the best things in life don’t come so easy.  People have learned to spoil themselves by learning to take the easy way in many of their ventures in life.

No matter what type of trip you are taking, traveling can get very expensive so you will want to cut corners where you can to save money.  You should be able to enjoy your trip not spend most of your money on your hotel stay.  The hotel is the place where you will spend the least amount of time therefore you should not have to spend most of your money on your accommodations.

The first place to start looking for discount hotel rates would be your local Yellow Pages and travel agencies.  Many times there are discount coupons located right in the Yellow Pages for such things as hotels, restaurants and even car rentals.  Local travel agencies can also offer you great discounts on hotels and can even give you more savings if they package together such things as airfare and car rentals into your entire trip itinerary.

It is a good thing to get any hotel quotes from travel agencies in writing as you can then take those and go to one of their competitors to see if they will meet or beat the rate you were given.  This is a good way to haggle a lower price out of the travel agencies in your area.

Other places to look for discount Hotel rates would be online.  Sometimes people think that by going to a discount travel website, they can get the best deal possible on Hotel rates but that isn’t always true.  You may be surprised to find that if you go directly to the hotel’s website, you can find great online discount which will save even more than the online travel site can.  More and more hotels are trying to generate online business so they offer huge discount for booking your hotel stay on their website so it is definitely worth looking into to see what specials they have going at the time you’re traveling.

Online travel discount sites are still a good option to try to get the best rate for your hotel stay.  They allow you to do a search of hotels in the area that you are going to an end may latest each of the hotels with the prices that they can offer you all on one page.  You then have the option to make a list of the hotels that you’re interested in and compare the discount, accommodations and amenities that each offer has.

Many times these websites guarantee that they will have the lowest price possible so it can pay off for you to look around at a few different discount sites to see if you can get a cheaper rate.  If you find a lower rate on another site, you simply get a copy of that rate in writing and submit it to the site with the lowest price guarantee.  They will then either offer you the same price as the other site or give you a lower rate to ensure that they get your business.

If you’re planning a vacation or traveling for business, you should be able to enjoy yourself or take care of business rather than worry about your hotel accommodations.  Getting the best hotel rate is as simple as just making a phone call or clicking a mouse.  Be sure to do a bit of research before you commit to a hotel room rate.  You want to be sure that you get the best hotel rates that you possibly can, so this doesn’t play on your mind for the duration of your trip.

icy_tempest asked:

I went directly to a major hotel chain’s official website (not Priceline, Expedia, etc) to check room rates. The rate listed is OBVIOUSLY a mistake and too low to be accurate. The rooms generally go for approx $55 per night, but it is listed for the timeframe that I want to stay for $5 per night.

If I booked the reservation at this price and got a confirmation showing the total would be like $35.00 per tax for the week, would they hotel HAVE to honor that when I arrived or would they turn around and charge me the correct price?

In your opinion, would you call the hotel and find out the actual price and tell them what the website quoted or would you go ahead and make the reservation and argue the point when you got to the hotel?

My common sense tells me I should just call before making the reservation to avoid any surprises. But my cheap side wants to try to get away with the bargain of all bargains. I’m not looking for ethical right vs. wrong answers. Just looking for opinions.
…ooops.. I meant “plus tax”, not “per tax”

I was looking for a hotel on travelocity.com for downtown Fort Worth. All of the listings either say “AARP rate” or “AAA rate, must present ID” Does this mean that I could only get those rooms if I am a member of that organization? Why would they list them on travelocity if they aren’t open to everybody? Could I still get the same room but just have to pay extra since I’m not a member? I’m confused. Help!
