We are a 25/26 year old couple with our two sons (ages 4 & 5) and would like to take them somewhere only for a weekend in February or March this year. We have about $1000 budget. This will need to include hotel stay as well. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Oh and BTW, we live about 30 mins from Galveston and about 40 from Houston, so those two are out completely.

What about going out towards San Antonio and doing Sea World and Fiesta Texas? You could also check out the zoo. It’s kinda small, but the kids will like it. Then go up by San Marcos to the Natural Bridge Wildlife Park. It’s a drive-thru park where you can feed wild animals right out of your car. Kids dig it. You could do the caverns too, but the kids might be too young to enjoy that. Then you can hit Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels if it’s open yet. Not sure when they open though. Otherwise, just drive around that area, and between Austin and Houston. It’s beautiful country and there are parks galore. Hope you figure out something fun to do.

I agree completely with ck, but I think the kids will have lots of fun in San Antonio. The riverwalk is fun and the best part about it is that the entire family could enjoy it! As far as the hotel goes, I would stay at a Holiday Inn, Comfort Suites or something like that. If you get one downtown, you are looking to pay about $100 a night, not bad for a place downtown.
