The hotel or motel reserves the right to charge more for the room, based on the number of people who will occupy the room.
For example: $100 per night for single occupancy (one person - the rate per person, per night is $100), but $140 per night for double occupancy (two people in the room - the rate per person, per night is $70).
There is usually a bit of a discount. Just think, just because there are two people doesn’t mean that they have to clean two bathrooms. But if there are two people in two separate beds, they have to change two sets of sheets.
The listed amount of money for the room applies to each person in the room. If the room rate is $25 and 4 people stay in the room the room rate will be $100.

There is a nightly charge per room that is multiplied by the number of people staying in the room.

Hotels charge more for 2 people than for 1 person. Per night means pretty much what it says..example 1 person 1 night=$75 2 people 1 night=$85
