What do you know about extra person fees at Vegas hotels?

I am planning a trip to Vegas with some friends and wondering about the extra person fees hotels charge. All of the 4 and 5-star hotels I have been looking into charge an extra person fee of $30 or more. Have you ever booked a room for 2 people and had extra people staying in the room? If so, which 4 or 5-star hotel was it? And what preventive measures did you take?

I’m assuming the busier hotels won’t be watching you come and go or counting towels. Please share your experiences and opinions whether good or bad…

Well you shouldn’t all arrive together. You reserved a room with two queen beds and so when you two of you check in ask for two keys. Later the other two can just come up to the room. If they need a key to get past the guard then the one bring down the two keys while one stays and gives one of the keys for the two new arrivals and keeps the second key to get back up themselves since most people only get one key for two. No one really looks or cares. They don’t have time .. that is unless you give them cause. No trouble from you and you will have no trouble from them.

You just don’t want the front desk person to see more than 2 of you checking in since you are only paying for 2. Other than that, they probably won’t notice. Ask for 2 keys, which will cover you for a while, but if you would like another, go to the front desk later on, and tell them you lost one of your keys and you would like another.
Even if by some happenstance, the person who checks you in sees all of you go up to the room together, how are they going to know that your friends aren’t staying in a different room, or even a different hotel? You are allowed to have visitors anyway, so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Anyway, the extra person charge comes out to close to the same amount as booking a whole other room.

Hotels are in the business of making money. Most rooms are for two, suites sfor four. So trying to cut corners/cheating is frowned upon. So pay the fee since you are going to spend money on gambling anyways, and don’t worry. If they catch you, ALL of you are kicked out

Dont arrive all at the same time and if you are all planning on entering the hotel at the same time ( alot of hte hotels have a guard by the elevators during evening and afternoon) dont all go upstairs at the same time
Ive gone to Vegas many times and have had 6 ppl in a room at the Hard Rock, the MGM grand and at the Mirage.
also i would not ask for cots..they charge..or too many extra towels.

when you book your room just tell them you only have 2 people staying in the room. when you arrive at your hotel tell all of your friends to stan away from the check-in area. it works with every hotel! i do it all the time….. dont trip!
