What area very close to times square in new york can I stay at to get cheaper hotel rates?

You could try the Penn Hotel on 34th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues. They’re still expensive but cheap compared to the places around Times Square. Also Chelsea hotels are less expensive than Times Square. If 100 dollars a night sounds like too much, try Astoria, Queens, it’s right on the other side of the East River and a short commute into Manhattan.
