Questions reguarding Fort Sam Houston AIT training?
Hotel Ratesjohn m asked:
I was wondering a lot about the training done on Fort Sam Houston for the Army Trainees. My Wife will be going there as a 68P for 46 weeks.
I am stationed about 6 hrs away.
Will I be able to visit her on the weekends?
What are the chances she’ll be able to stay with me if I got an on base hotel room?
Will she be able to have her car?
How long until she can leave base?
I have also heard that after her 22nd week of training she may get moved to another base.

Any insite would be great as it’ll help me prepare for after her basic training. Thanks
Also, is there internet access within the Dorms for 68P, or will my wife need to get wireless on base somewhere?

I went to Ft Sam for the 91W (now 68W) course a couple years ago.
Yes, you will be able to see her on the weekends, but that privilege comes after a couple of weeks (And yes, that is a privilege she earns).
She can receive weekend passes, which means she can be gone from whatever time they are released to whatever time they need to be back (So, she could be gone from 1700 Friday to 1300 Sunday, 2 nights with you). She won’t be able to have her car.
She’ll be able to leave the base after a couple of weeks
FYI, around Christmas time, all training stops, and everybody is given 2 weeks leave. This is commonly known as “Exodus”, so be prepared.
