I think Fema evacuees should reimburse the tax payers who footed the bill.

Contact the Red Cross and FEMA reps who are in that area. They can help you with the financial aspect.
Good Luck.

Are you so self centered and lazy that you think the american taxpayer should front your trip ? Mandatory means if you don’t leave you are on your own ; don’t call anyone for help.

Why do you think they should?Did you leave because you value your life and your loved ones or did you leave because you thought that you would get some money from the government. We all have hard times and we must learn to stand on our on two feet.Sorry to be so blunt but I didn’t ask the government to pay for me to move so I could get a better job. This is part of life.Deal with it.

I would not be at all surprised. The south seems to be filled with helpless people looking for a handout.

Wow, I am assuming that all of the people that responded to your question did not have to evacuate from their homes. I have lived in Louisiana my entire life and evacuated for all hurricanes, for mandatory and recommended evacuations. I have worked since the age of 16 and have paid my taxes ever since and I have never asked for help, i.e. food stamps, WIC, medicaid. This person isn’t looking for a handout, but is probably worried about funds running out because we don’t know when we are able to return to our homes. I don’t feel like a reimbursement is too much to ask for - it was noone’s fault that this happened to us and as a taxpayer of 16 years,
i don’t think that it is too much too ask for to receive a reimbursement or help - isn’t that what people do for eachother-help in times of need. FEMA was setup to help those who have been affected in a natural disaster and they came through for us after hurricane Katrina, so hopefully they will this time around. I just heard on the radio that it could be up to two more weeks before our homes will have power, there is no gas in LA and there are no grocery stores open yet. I have paid for hotel, food and gas since Friday and my funds are running out too (I have spent over a $1,000.00 so far) and I don’t know where I am going to go. Sure, we could go to a shelter, but it will be our last resort. I hope that all of you that have not experienced what we are experiencing now and never have to, especially for all of you that have answered this person’s question without any compassion.
