Can a new Owner of the Hotel we live in, raise the rates from $490 a month to $1800 a month?
Hotel RatesIylenas asked:
New owners bought the Hotel we live in, and after July 19th, the rates are going up $40 a night, on top of what we are already paying. We pay $490 a month right now. We have lived here for over 6 months. Anyone know laws/ rules on this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

I think it may depend on the state. You said hotel, so I assume that you must rent it weekly or monthly but you have no lease?
If you have no lease, they can raise it. If it were an apartment I think it may be different-meaning that when your lease was renewed, the rate would change.

They can raise them, if you have no lease. Sounds like they are giving you time to find another place.

New owners means new contract. They can change it however they want. Now, if you are in a lease agreement, they should honor the old lease, but they don’t have to, since they now own the place.

tenancy is tenancy; if you have no lease,
or other written agreement, the owners needs
to give you a 30 day written notice and
he can raise the rate to anything he wishes.
Why so long in a hotel-motel?
YOU can GET A SMALL 1 bed apt for that
rate, or maybe even a condo you can buy.
