Anyone Know Anything About Houston, TX?
Hotel RatesWhosThatGirl? asked:
I plan on going there in about 2 more weeks. I have been looking at staying at the Hotel Derek, Sofitel. What are some good, clean, nice area hotels that wouldnt cost me a arm & a leg? Shopping, dining? Last, but not least the night life? I will be there for the weekend.

If you’re with friends check-out the Richmond Strip, SW side. If your ‘dragging your own purse, stay (room) close to where you’ll party.
Everyone’s right about the humidity. If you’ve been to Florida or Charleston, SC you’ll know what it’s all about. Houston is a ‘car’ kinda town. Mass transit non existent; Short rail from Med center to Downtown (daylight only for first timers). If you have time take a drive to Galveston Island. Fifty miles southeast on Gulf Coast. Told ya about the car thing. Do the Kemah Boardwalk on Galveston Bay if you don’t want to go all the way to the island. saltwater seafood: Shrimp, fresh fish, crab. Listen closely for the best suggestions only.
If you can’t have fun in and around that City well, you ain’t really trying very hard.

WOW…Juan is quite comprehensive. All I can tell you is that the Hotel Derek is located in a really great spot (and no, in that area there really isn’t much that is more reasonably priced). The hotel is located at Loop 610 & Westheimer which is one block from the world renowned Houston Galleria (Huge mall) and very near many of Houstons’ hot spots for nightlife. Take a cab…
As far as dining, your hotel is centrally located and you can pick & choose as you like. Sorry, I would recommend some places but I don’t know what you like and Houston has it all.
If the consierge at the Derek doesn’t know about what you are interested in just call the St. Regis Hotel (formerly The Ritz-Carlton & is only a couple blocks away from your hotel) and ask for the consierge…he will answer all of your questions and you are getting a free service as they will presume that you are a guest there & are paying a fortune.
I know…dishonesty isn’t good but you only have ONE weekend…Make the best of it and please don’t think badly of me.
Enjoy your trip!
